Thank you to everyone who has joined the Active Support Unit (ASU) or agreed to assist them. The ASU is now up and running under the experienced leadership of Keith Turbitt who may be contacted at pendlesas@hotmail.co.uk The ASU is based in Pendle but also serves Burnley District too and membership is open to any current or retired leader who wishes to give some support at a mutually convenient time. In addition to providing Active Support, the ASU also plan to have an Active Social programme too! Consolidation of smaller Scout Groups & Development Plans Thank you to those Scout Groups who have submitted their thoughts on developing their Groups. I will be talking to the smaller Scout Groups fairly soon to consider ways to help them. In the meantime, I will be pleased to hear from other Scout Groups who haven’t responded to my request in the last Newsletter. Thank you! Thank you to all Scout Groups for the prompt completion of the Annual Census information and payment. Thank you to everyone who has recently completed Appointment Reviews, attended the Safeguarding Training and other Adult Training including the Headquarter’s GSL & DC’s Day at Ribby Hall. Thank you to those who have entered the County Cub Football Competition and the District heats. DISTRICT DIARIES BURNLEY DISTRICT ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – WEDNESDAY 16 MARCH 2011 Our Annual General Meeting is on Wednesday 16 March 2011 at Burnley Town Hall, 1945 for 2000 hrs. Our Guest Speaker is Les Hardy from the North West Air Ambulance and we will be making a presentation to him on conclusion of the evening. Our County Commissioner, Glen Fendall, will also be present. Please be aware there is a parking charge on all town centre car parks during the evening, so park on the side streets. BURNLEY DISTRICT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE – WEDNESDAY 18 MAY 2011 The first meeting of the new Exec will be on Wednesday 18 May 2011 at St Matthews Church Hall, Albion Street at 2000 hrs. PENDLE DISTRICT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE – MONDAY 21 MARCH 2011 Pendle’s next Executive meets on Monday 21 March 2011 at St Thomas’s at 2000 hrs. PENDLE DISTRICT ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Pendle’s AGM is provisionally planned for Tuesday 24 May 2011. ACTIVE SUPPORT UNIT – TUESDAY 5 APRIL 2011 Keith will be sending details of the venue soon, but please make a note of the date now! JOINT DISTRICT’S WELCOME EVENING – THURSDAY 7 APRIL 2010 Details of the next Welcome Evening for applicants for adult appointments have been sent to GSL’s. BURNLEY DISTRICT ST GEORGE’S DAY CELEBRATIONS – FRIDAY 8 APRIL 2011 Please meet inside St Cuthbert's Community Centre between 1830 and 1840 hrs but please note that Flag Bearers and readers should meet in St Cuthbert's Church at 1815 hrs for a short rehearsal. Scout Groups are asked to assemble in the Community Centre at their labelled area. They will then enter church as directed. Parents are invited to join us in church and they will be asked to follow the last of the Scout Groups. There will be a collection in aid of a nominated charity. Group Scout Leaders are asked to collect from their Groups. There will be a retiring collection for parents. A campfire will follow in the Community Centre and those who have a Camp Fire Blanket are asked to bring them. Refreshments will be served. The evening is expected to end at approx 2045 hrs and parents and family members are welcome to stay for the service and the campfire. Leaders are asked to ensure that complete and correct uniform is worn. PENDLE DISTRICT ST GEORGE’S DAY CELEBRATIONS – SUNDAY 10 APRIL 2011 Please meet at Seedhill Athletics Track, Nelson at 1340/1350 for the parade at 1400 hrs around the track led by Nelson Brass Band before a short Scouts Own Service. After the service, young people may enjoy the activities and games for including archery, bouncy castle, crafts, parachute and ball games. Refreshments will be available. There will be an “Old spectacle collection” in aid of charity. Parents are asked to stay for the duration of this event so that they can collect their children at the end of the Scouts Own Service and accompany them around the various activities and games as all leaders are likely to be involved in staffing them. Leaders are asked to ensure that complete and correct uniform is worn. BORDER SEVENS HIKING CHALLENGE – SUNDAY 1 MAY 2011 This is open to all Scouts and Explorers. Please note that you choose how far you wish to walk. Whilst 10 year old Scouts are quite capable of walking the 22 miles from the Limestone Trail Car Park on the Long Causeway to Earby, it is acceptable to choose the shorter option of only walking to Moor Lodge Farm, a distance of approx 11 miles for which they will receive a Certificate and A BRONZE BADGE! This Challenge Hike should be within the ability of all Scout Troops. It is not that easy, otherwise it would not be a challenge worth achieving.
