ELECTRONIC APPOINTMENT APPLICATION PROCESS – ADVANCE INFORMATION You may have heard that The Scout Association is moving to an electronic application process for CRB checking in Please note that the last date that the current CRB form will be accepted by our District Appointments Secretaries is 1 July 2010 as they have to be received at HQ by 9 July 2010. If a Secretary is on holiday at this time, the last date may be brought forward. If a repeat CRB is required to complete a pending Appointment Review, please contact Hazel Graham (01282 453593) or Les Ridings (01282 695927) as a matter of urgency, please. From 26 July 2010, the CRB will require a different set of data to ensure that adults can be registered on the VBS. The current CRB forms will become obsolete but the Adult Application (AA) Forms and Occasional Helper (OH) Forms will be updated to include all the information required for the CRB check. Two new forms will be introduced to support the administration for “Repeat CRB Checks (RCRB)” and “Change of Role (CR)” when a repeat CRB is not required. New forms will be sent from HQ to our District Appointments Secretary by the end of June for use on and after 26 July 2010. Who needs to register? This has been simplified and clarified as follows. In Scouting, anyone required to complete a CRB check will be registered on the scheme. This means that anyone who is over 18 years of age and: 1: wishes to become a Member or Associate Member; or 2: will have unsupervised access to young people; or 3: will have involvement with the handling or management of funds; or 4: will be assisting with overnight activities including Nights Away; or 5: will be helping out more than once a month will be registered on the VBS as part of the Personal Enquiry. In order to comply with the law, new volunteers will need to be registered before their 4th weekly meeting or before undertaking any overnight activity, whichever occurs first. APPOINTMENT REVIEWS – SAFEGUARDING TRAINING ARRANGEMENTS You may be aware that the January 2010 edition of Policy, Organisation and Rules introduces a new requirement for adults to have undertaken approved safeguarding training at the point that their review is undertaken. This will ensure that we can keep people up-to-date on this essential area of work – with all adults in Scouting receiving this training at least every five years. This training obligation may be met through two routes: 1. Participation in a training session in the period since the adult’s last appointment review Two such training sessions have been scheduled this year: 22 June and 22 September, please contact Joanne Carey to reserve a place on either. 2. Participation in the NSPCC Keeping Children Safe online training package, in the period since the individual’s last appointment review. For further details and registration on Keeping Children Safe please contact Joanne Carey. SOCIAL NETWORKING Social Networking is increasing but all adults should ensure they keep themselves and their young people safe on-line. Please note the information published in Scouting Magazine April/May 2010. In particular, please ensure that you always have parental permission to use any photos of Scouts and only use their first names if you provide a caption; do not use your personal social networking account to communicate with Scouts; only set up pages for events, activities or groups for which you are responsible; and use separate profiles and communication routes for email and social networking to keep Scouting and your personal life separate. Please be aware that once you place something online it is in the public domain, which means that anyone can access it and may misuse it. If you need to email your Scouts, always copy the email to their parents and another adult from your Scout Group or Explorer Unit. The provision of a District Facebook has been carefully considered by the Joint District’s Team and the decision was made not to proceed. more news articles... | Events: JOINT DISTRICTS WEEKEND AT GREAT TOWER![]() JOINT DISTRICTS WEEKEND AT GREAT TOWER ...
